Acknowledged Gift

Is it over? Past and done:
we've given gifts; we ate the meal.
We thanked You for Your only Son,
and prayed for the appropriate zeal.

Could the deeds that we perceive,
as our response to your great gift,
be generous, pure as we believe,
results of the hope and spirit's lift?

Still,when the day is just half gone,
how small I am is clearly shown.
What mere good even work I've done.
The help I need is You alone.

How small the thoughts; I pray the lift,
to anything envisioned, sought,
could even slight way hail the gift,
the hope and freedom You have brought?
